Green Tourism Policy for bed and breakfast accommodation in West Cornwall

I am a member of CoaST (Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project) because I realise that the main reason people come to Cornwall is to enjoy the environment – the beautiful, clean beaches, the wildness of the cliffs and heathland, the birdlife and the smell of ozone in the air.

Steps need to be taken to protect this environment. As an example, during the summer the amount of rubbish generated in Cornwall in August is 45% higher than in December – eventually this, and other factors such as the number of car journeys people make, will have a negative impact on the very environment everyone is here to enjoy.

I have introduced lots of measures to minimise the impact of the accommodation that I look after, to ensure that the local economy flourishes.

In 2021 this area was designated as a Dark Skies Park.  This took a lot of work and requires ongoing evidence of compliance.  Measures to cut light pollution affect Wildlife, Health, Energy, Heritage and Safety.  To find out more go to the Dark Skies website.  In 2020 the Penwith Landscape Partnership ran a competition for Penwith photos at night and there are some amazing photos on their website.
